EDO 2014 : Let’s Do It!
Last week ( November 10, & 13-15) was a busy week for all FLL students, why? The theme of this year’s EDO is "lEt's DO it". Ones '13, the chair person of this event said that the theme was chosen so that the committee fighting spirit could be also be shared with the participants. ACCESS – WHAT’S NEW

Access’s office was moved to F108 two weeks ago. Even though it wasn’t announced officially, Access crewmembers have moved and arranged many things in their new room. Access’s previous room was together with LK’s room, in F512. The main reason of Access to move to another room was because the members wanted to have their own room. It was a bit difficult to share a room with other people. Let alone when they had a meeting and needed their privacy, but LK members were also busy with their work in the same room. Access members sometimes had difficulties in finding another room for their meetings. Now they have their own room that they can use for their own work. According to Ima’11, the previous room was better than their new room, because their new room was formerly a warehouse. They had to clean the room first and arranged the room again. It’s not a warehouse anymore, but sometimes when there is an event, the room will be used for storing stuffs from that event. Besides, they feel happy because the room is wider than the previous and they have their own room, so that they have their privacy now. In the new room, Access will be doing Open Recruitment on December 1st, 2014. Three position will be offered: columnists (5), layout setters (2), and illustrator (1). To apply as columnists, applicants should submit their own writing with a theme of their choice. For the setting layout position, applicants should show how they set layout. As for the last position, illustrator, the applicants have to show how they make an illustration based on a theme that they choose. In addition, there will also be an interview for all applicants on December 1st, 2014. So, all FLL students, if you are interested to join Access, make sure you join the recruitment process. Access hopes that they can get new qualified crew members to strengthen the team so that they can work together for improvement.

EDance : The Pride of FLL
One more achievement that makes us proud came from one of the KBM (Kegiatan Bakat Minat) in our faculty, EDance. On November 9, 2014 EDance was involved in a dance competition which was held in SMAN 2 Pati. Raising a theme “I Dance Because I Love”, this competition was held to celebrate the 4th anniversary of Eternity (a dance community from Pati). The dance competition was divided into two categories. There were two criteria in this competition. The first one was for high school students and the other one was for public. In this competition, EDance competed in the public category and won the runner up position.
As the representatives, there were five gorgeous and energetic girls from our faculty who joined this competition. They are Temmy ’12, Adven ’11, Vicky ’11, Ayu ’11, and Fanny ’11. As their preparation to face this competition, they practiced the choreography for ten days with the concept that had been chosen earlier. For this competition, this team chose to work on a concept about nigga.
After the competition, Temmy ’12 expressed her excitement, “I’m so glad and thankful for being the runner up in this competition. I hope that the next generation of EDance will be able to continuously become the pride of our faculty.
Well, PoWers also hopes that EDance will get more and more achievements in any dance competition and always give pride not only for the faculty, but also for our university. Once again congratulations to you all guys. You’re awesome!

English Competition Club’s Stories
ECC (English Competition Club) have proudly won a speech competition at UNDIP (Universitas Diponegoro) Semarang, and plan to join AEO (Asian English Olympics) at BINUS (Bina Nusantara) University, Jakarta.
On Friday, November 14th, 2014, ECC which was represented by Stevy Semuel Asa Binowo (Sem) 112012015 joined a speech competition at UNDIP, Semarang. He won the first place at the speech competition defeating 25 other participants. The theme of the event was about technology, and Sem, chose “the youth addiction to technologies” as the topic for his speech. The competition was held from 7 am to 7 pm. Due to his busy schedule as a student, Sem spent only two days preparing for the speech competition. At the end of the interview, he kindly shared his tips in delivering a speech. “Do not get too focused on the text content of your speech, but improvise a little. Sometimes when you are on stage you will forget what you want to talk about. So instead of memorizing the text, you should just memorize the important points only, and the rest is up to you, what you want to say. Do not forget to catch your breath” said Sem.
Next on February 10th – 14th, 2015, ECC is going to participate in AEO (Asian English Olympics). With the theme “Tribe of Warrior”, AEO, the biggest English Competition in Asia invites senior high school students and university students from all over Asia to participate. The competition will be hosted by BINUS English Club (BNEC) and will be held at BINUS University, Jakarta. The competition itself is divided into six categories including Debate, Scrabble, Story Telling, News Casting, Speech and Short Movie Making.
“We are opening a recruitment for ECC members only and we will send three representatives for each category offered in the competition, so we will send 15 people,” said Devi ’13 as the leader of ECC. The recruitment will be held on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014. Powers do hope that the representatives from ECC will bring the victory for FLL.

Hectic Week
Hi ED’ers !!
Welcome to the hectic week. As FLL students we have the time to be stressed out with all of the awaiting tests and assignments. Here are some of the opinions from a representative of each “angkatan”.
·         According to Anastasia (2014), even though her first semester has been really hard with so many assignments, tests, and also the activities as a committee member, she still doesn’t want to regard it as a burden. Instead, she tries to enjoy this semester, which approaches its end. Moreover, she wants to be well prepared for the next semester. If she feels frustrated, she will hang out with her friends and after that she will be ready to go back to her regular activities. She also gives us a message, “Don’t do something with a half heart.”
·         Aya (2013), who is now in her third semester, more or less has the same situation as Anas during these final weeks of the semester. She also wants to enjoy the third semester instead of letting herself be under pressure. The only different being that, when she feels depressed, she will go to bed instead of hanging out with her friends.
·         Likewise, Lia (2012), who is in the fifth semester, has never thought this semester is hard. She has never felt under pressure because of so many tests and assignments either. In fact, she is currently a member of SMF (Senat Mahasiswa Fakultas, the faculty student body) and several committees, such as: The Annual Drama (The Lion King) and ECC (English Competition Club). Nevertheless, she always has the strong tenet with her. “Don’t think too hard about everything. Do it slowly,” said Lia’12.
·         Lastly, to Natasya (2011), this seventh semester with its numerous assignments, as well as the proposal writing task and the teaching practicum is the most difficult semester. Thus, she decided not to join any committee. However, even though this semester is really hard with the assignment deadlines from the courses that she is taking, she also has the same thought as Anas’14, Aya’13, and Lia’12: she does not want to think this semester is really hard.
So, guys, in conclusion, do not think this semester is too hard, do it and you will pass this semester easily. So, keep your spirit guys!!

THE GIFT OF BLOOD IS THE GIFT OF LIFE
Many teenagers are afraid of donating blood. They assume that blood donation is something dreadful although they themselves have never tried it. When they were asked about it, they mostly said that knowing there is a needle pierced on your skin, taking a pint of blood is one of the scariest things ever. “I’m afraid of trying that. It must be very painful,” said Nadia ’12.
However, Grace ’12 has a different opinion about it. “Blood donation is not as scary as it seems. I have tried it.” She explained that it felt nothing when the needle was pierced on her skin. “And shortly after donating blood, I felt that my body became much better and healthier,” she added.
Actually, what Grace said is true. Blood donation indeed brings many benefits for our health. First, we are far from the risk of heart disease because we are removing high blood iron which has a significant impact on atherosclerosis, or the hardening of the arteries. The decreased iron level also keeps us away from the risk of cancer.
Second, blood donation has been found beneficial to those wishing to lose weight. A person who donates blood burns about 650 calories with every pint donated, as the body has to work to replenish itself.
Considering its advantages, our faculty together with PMI (Palang Merah Indonesia, the Red Cross) decided to hold an event of blood donation which will take place at Kartini campus on Thursday, November 27th 2014, from 09.00 a.m until 02.00 p.m.

Prepare yourself and make sure that you join this event because more than 4-5 million patients need blood transfusions each year and one pint of your blood can save up to three lives. (Sita 2012)

The 8th International Seminar

I know you // But I don’t know you //  But I know your name // How do you know my name when I don’t know your name? // Because you know I know you so well
That was one of material that Tan Bee Tin (a speaker from University of Auckland, New Zealand) presented in the last seminar. In that session, we learnt how to make a dialogue using the word ‘know’. Funny isn’t it? Well that was only one of the other sessions.
This year, the international seminar was held on November 11th& 12th, 2014 at BalairungUtama(BU) and F Building. The theme was “Engaging with Literature Creativity”. Actually, the purpose of this seminar is to raise awareness towards literature in society because literature doesn’t have a good position in societyyet. The seminar is hoped to open the participants’ eyes that literature can actually improve personality, give wisdom, build tolerance, etc. The plenary speakers of the seminar were Prof. Alan Maley (Leeds Metropolitan University, UK), Prof. JayakaranMukundan (Universiti Putra Malaysia), and Prof. Kirk Branch from United States.
The sound of the gong hit by the rector of SatyaWacan Christian University officially marked the beginning of the seminar. After that, the participants were spoiled with adance performance from Papua and some songs sung by EDVoice. On the 1st day, Prof. Alan Maley presented his work on “Literature in a World of Distraction” in BalairungUtama. Later in Plenary Session 2 from Prof.Jayakaran Mukundan presented about “Should Literature be Entertainment or Just Hard work with no Play?"After the second plenary session, participants were moved to F Building to join Parallel Session 1-3 and Workshop 1.
The next day, Prof. Kirk Branch presented his material about “Treating Students Like Writers: The Teacher as Reader” for the Plenary Session 3 in BalairungUtama.  For the next agenda, participants were again moved to F Buliding because there were Parallel Session 4-5 and Workshop 2. Despite the absence of several presenters, the parallel session could run smoothly with the substitute presenters. As the Parallel and the Workshop Sessionswere over, the participants returned to participate in the panelsession(the question and answer session with the Plenary Speakers). At the end, the seminar was closed with a performance by the Sunday Morning band from the Faculty of Performing Arts.
Ms. Suzana Maria hoped that the organizing committee for the next year seminar will work earlier so that the seminar can be organized well. Furthermore, she also hoped that the number of participants will increase, too.
Lastly, see you in the next FLL International Seminar!

COUNTDOWN TO THE DAY OF OCTOBER 31th
Hola, ED-ers!
Do you all know what day is October 31th? Yap! That is a day of Hallowen celebration. In America, Halloween is usually celebrated amongst family, friends, and sometimes co-workers. They may celebrateit by watching horror movies, holding costume parties, or creating haunted house. Meanwhile, children would dress up in fancy costumes and visit other houses in the neighborhood. At each house, they demand sweets, snacks or a small gift. If they do not get this, they threaten to do some harm to the inhabitants of the house. This is known as playing 'trick-or-treat'!
How could this all happen?
This begins from ancient people’s belief that ghosts come back to earth on the day of October 31th. They look for living bodies to be possessed and try to return to the home they used to live in.  So to appease these spirits, people offer them fruits and nuts. If the spirits are not pleased, it is feared that the spirits would kill the people or destroy their goods.
For the symbol itself, there are various symbols associated with Halloween. These include the spooks, ghosts, and walking skeletons that represent the contact between the spiritual and physical world and between the living and the dead. Human figures that are often represented on Halloween are witches and wizards, who are seen to have the power to contact the spirit world. Bats, black cats, and spiders are often connected with this holiday. These animals are associated with the night and darkness and often accompany witches and wizards.
So, what costume are you going to wear in on this year’s Halloween celebration?Sita (2012)

Great Day, Great Story, Great Hope
Saturday, October 18th 2014 might be the most unforgettable day for most final-year students in Satya Wacana Christian University, especially those from the Faculty of Language and Literature. After struggling for several years, finally they reached their academic milestone. Held in the majestic Balairung Universitas (BU) was the long-awaited graduation ceremony which was the icing of the cake for all graduates. As graduates, they have their own impressions about their achievement. Below are some comments from FLL graduates.
The first impression comes from Indra ’10 who is a student with the highest GPA, a staggering 3.88. “That is true that I’m happy, but still I can’t feel like “wow” because until now I can’t go anywhere with this high GPA”, he said. As he told me in the interview, he hoped that his GPA can help him to get any job or get any scholarship. Another impression is shown by Ester ’10 who felt relieved that finally she could graduate and finish her study after she sacrificed all of time, sweat, and energy she had to finish her thesis.
Reviewing their journey en route to their success involves reminiscing unforgettable experiences along the way. From Ester herself, instead of choosing the English Language Teaching Program, she actually wanted to major in International Relationship. That’s why at the beginning of her first semester in FLL, she had no desire to attend classes. Then in the middle of her study, she found another difficulty in managing her time between studies and extracurricular activities. Entering the fifth semester, fortunately, she started to find inner motivation and passion to finish her study. However, the real obstacle came in the process of finishing her thesis. “I spent a long time working with my thesis because at that time I had to change my thesis topic for six times”, she explained. Similar to Ester, Indra also found that it was difficult to balance between academic achievement and organization activities. He was even forced to repeat an elective course because of the unflattering result in his first attempt.
Talking about graduation, there will be a question about what our next goal is. For these two students, however, they already have the answers. “Actually I really want to pursue a master's degree. But I think I need to rest for a while and try to look for a job as a teacher to apply my knowledge that I got from FLL”, Ester said. Different from Ester, Indra expressed his hope to get a scholarship and while waiting for the scholarship, he wanted to try looking for a job which doesn’t bind him so that it will not burden him once he gets a scholarship. The reason why he wants to continue his study is because he feels that he has not had enough provision to work. “I hope I can get a scholarship abroad and later return to support Indonesia’s development so that Indonesia will be able to compete in the international world”, Indra envisioned his future. As same as Indra, Ester also has her own hope for her future saying that she is determined to change people’s mindset that sees something only from the negative side. She hopes that by being a teacher she will give an influence for others to try to take the positive side of everything life has to offer.
Well, those are such wonderful goals to set and may they come to fruition someday. Once again, happy graduation for all SWCU students, especially from FLL. May God always bless us and direct our steps to reach our dreams. (Ovie ’12)

Are You Ready for Joining ED Voice?
Do you love singing? As a FLL’s students we all know about ED Voice. English Department Voice is one of the interesting “KBM” in our faculty, and singing is their main business. Beside that ED Voice have talented students with the angel voice and their voice as good as the top singers. Like Windi said as the leader of this KBM “ED Voice will accommodate students who have an interest in art, music, and vocal.” She also told that this KBM often asked by lectures to perform in the special event like: Yudisium, international seminar, and the others event in the faculty.
Welcoming the new academic year, this highly-entertaining KBM is holding their annual audition to search for unique new talents. This long-awaited audition has been scheduled for October 23-24, 2014.Traditionally, their auditions have been strict as applicants’ abilities in reading musical note and, of course, singing, are demanded.
However, Windi asserts that besides those above mentioned techniques, there is also equally-important quality each auditionee must possess, self-confidence.
That’s why she asked to always practice to prepare the audition. Beside that practice will help you to feel confidence Kang Gary’s quote “Hard work will never betray you.” Good luck for everyone who wants to join ED Voice!! (pamela’12)
Mini Indonesia: Bringing Indonesia to SWCU
The annual event of Satya Wacana Christian University (SWCU) festival to welcome new students in SWCU was held on Thursday August 30th, 2014. The festival was themed ‘Indonesian Culture’ and all freshmen joined the event. The festival that started in Lapangan Pancasila, Salatiga aimed to parade 20 unique ethnic attractions from all corners of Indonesia to people of Salatiga. Some of the new students showed one of Indonesia's cultures by wearing traditional clothes from Indonesia and bring Indonesia’s replica traditional houses. A pair of FLL first-year students presented Indonesian traditional custom, Regina (112014103) and Doni (112014105). They represented the traditional custom from North Sumatra, Batak Karo. “This is our first time joining a culture festival and we feel enthusiastic because there are so many Salatiga people watching us”, they explained enthusiastically. Not only new students who showed off their performance, but quite many residents of Salatiga (from Ngagglik, DAD, and Pancuran), were taking part in this festival.  Besides the participation of the people from Salatiga’s in this festival, AMNI (Akademi Maritim Nasional Indonesia) also presented their stunning marching band attraction in Lapangan Pancasila. Furthermore, there were also performances by schools in Salatiga; SD LAB, SD Marsudirini 77, SMP Stella Matutina, and SMK N 2 Salatiga with their drum band.
The festival itself started at 3 pm and drew a large number of excited audience because the festival from SWCU is one of the most-anticipated local attractions. One of the audiences from Salatiga was Alda who studies in Diponegoro University, Semarang. Knowing the event from Twitter, she took time to come back in Salatiga and watched the festival. "The show is different from the previous ones but it was also exciting because there is a new look that there was no in the last year for example the performance from AMNI that was awesome!" Besides the local audience, there were some coming from abroad; Mrs Eliza with her husband and son who came from Canada and enjoyed every second of the beautiful cultural parade. “This is my first time watching the festival in Salatiga because I’m just in here for two months, I think this festival is interesting because there are so many cultures in Indonesia displayed in this festival" Said Mrs. Eliza.
The event went on well, thanks to the people in the hardworking committee. Headed by Dora, an FLL student from Angkatan 2011, the committee consisted of only 8 members. There are so many people wondering why this festival was different from the previous festivals. In this section, the chairperson answered that question. “In this festival, the Drumblek and Kostum were omitted with some policy from university. The drumblek was omitted since there were so many lecturers who complained that their class was being disturbed by the drumblek rehearsal.  And for the Kostum, that was omitted because to avoid the illegal payment which could burden the new students. We know that to make one costume, much money is needed, so we decided to omit it. Another reason behind the omission was the time needed to finish making one costume, usually took days. Besides, after the festival the costumes would not be used so it’s better to omit the Kostum from this festival.” Dora responded to some questions addressed to the differences this year’s festival brought. In the end of interview we asked Dora, if she would consider managing the next festival. Her answer was a firm ‘no’, albeit in a jokingly manner.

A Peek at 2015 FLL Annual Drama Audition

It has been more than 20 years has the Faculty of Language and Literature (FLL)had a big event each year which is called “FLL Annual Drama Performance”. This time FLL will present a drama performance adapted from a movie with the same title “The Lion King”. This event will be held on 27 & 28 March 2015 in Balairung Utama (BU) Satya Wacana Christian University. The Lion King is chosen because the genre is suitable for all people, so it will be easier to attract the attention of the audience to join the FLL. Hezky ’11 as the director considers that there will be many challenges in preparing the drama performance, but he believes that the team will be able to overcome every challenge. “If we can’t find the way, we will make a way”, he said.
As in the previous years, an audition was held to recruit the cast and crew for the drama performance. The audition lasted for three days, starting from Thursday, 11 September 2014 to Saturday, 13 September 2014, in search for 45 cast and 90 crew members. According to Hezky’11 and Dora’11, the director and the producer, to be a cast/crew member one must meet the same general criteria: committed and willing to learn. Specifically, a cast member should be able to act, sing and dance, while a crew member should have qualified skills in the respective divisions.
The audition participants seemed to be so enthusiastic that the 200 provided forms were all filled out and returned to the auditioners. However, not all positions have been filled up after the audition. Consequently, a second-round audition will be held immediately.
For the audition participants, you’ve got a message from Hezky ’11, the director of FLL Annual Drama Performance 2015. “Everything has its time. For those who are accepted to be cast or crew members, this is your time. But for those who aren’t accepted yet, it doesn’t mean you are bad. Maybe it’s just not your time and maybe you will have your time next year.” He also hopes that everyone will give the same effort to prepare and present this drama perfomance because when they succeed to present such a great performance, there will be a valuable experience that they can get as the cast and also crew members of this drama performance.
Finally, may the expected number of cast and crew be met after the second-round audition. Fighting! Oviera M.G ’12, Irene A.T ‘14

EDANCE WINS ICA DANCE COMPETITION

It was 30 August 2014 when Vicky’11, Ayu’11, Dea’13, and Fanny’11 fought together as the EDance in a dance competition held by ICA (Indonesian Cheerleading Association) at GOR Jati Diri, Semarang. As the only participant from Salatiga, EDance succeeded to win the champion of the competition. What an achievement!
How about the costume and the choreography? EDance wore the Hip-hop style in black as they danced the Girls Hip Hop LA Style. They have actually used the choreography before in a competition in Kridanggo Stadium, Salatiga. However, they added some new movements and changed the formation to make it different, considering that only four dancersinstead of five or sixperformed the dance. They did the preparations just like usual, but of course they practiced harder to rehearse the new movements and formation.
EDance wants to collaborate with other dance groups too. Fanny said that EDance wants to collaborate with DC FTI and Dance of SWCU. “We want to learn each other’s dance techniques and we want to improve our dance ability”, she said. And in the end of the interview, Fanny expressed her wish for EDance in the future, “I hope that ED Dance will be more solid, consistent in keeping their commitment in EDance. And each of us will always have a motivation to learn more and more about dance so that we can be better and be more successful together”.
Viva EDance!

Academic Writing? Yes, I am ready!!!
“Academic Writing almost drives me crazy every time I came into the class”, “Why is this so hard?” “Be careful when you come into the Academic Writing class”, “Be ready!”. Those all are following reasons about Academic Writing class. Almost everyone from the older cohort (angkatan) said exactly the same about it. They say it was hard and crazy. Moreover, it has lots of pressures. For those who have already taken this course and gladly passed the course will feel very release because they have already succeeded. However, for those who have not taken the course yet, it is such a nightmare for what older cohort (angkatan) said was spying on them.
Facing the fear of Academic Writing class, Pool of Writers as known as PoWers tried to facilitate what FLL (Faculty of Language and Literature) students’ need to prepare the Academic Writing class and give some tips to get through this difficult lesson.
Pricilia, the chairperson of PoWers Workshop 2014, said that after this workshop, she hopes that the participants will be helpful enough with this workshop. It can make the students free from the fear of this lesson. No more fear and get ready for the class. With the themes “Nuts and Bold of Academic Writing”, PoWers try to say that class is not something that we have to be afraid of. This has to be encouraging and help us to write academically just like the name of the lesson, Academic Writing.
So guys, what are you waiting for? Come and join in our workshop!!! It will make you better and get away from the fear of Academic Writing class!! J

ECC SHOW CASE: GOES TO NATURE
Hello guys! Do you like watching news on television or just love listening to a story telling? If so, this is great update for you, because ECC (English Competition Club) will hold an event which will entertain you. It’s called ECC Show Case. Let’s find out what is that here.
As it name is a competition club, it will show the ability in some skills that is usually competed in English competition, such as speech, storytelling, spelling bee, scrabble, and news casting.
ECC choose a theme that related with nature. The reason is that recently there were some natural disasters happening in Indonesia.  “Sometime it is caused by the human being who do not care with this nature, so by this show case we want to make the audiences aware with their environment by our performance that will talk about nature”, said Sandra as the coordinator. For this show case, the performance will be united in a story line which is related with the theme.
“I am still confused what to do, because I am a new member of ECC, I don’t know what I should do in this show case. I still cannot picture out this event, but in the other hand I am very happy, because this is my first chance to show my ability in spelling bee.” said Devi (13ners), as a new member of ECC.
This event held to promote this extracurricular and as a place to practice for ECC members who will join ALSA competition.  “I encourage you to come and see ECC Show Case on March 24th in front of F building. There are some door prizes for lucky audiences.”  Sandra added.
So guys, mark your calendar on that day. Do not miss it and enjoy their performance!

EDRT Presented The First Trial of The Year
“A Beary Unusual Pet”
Hello everyone! Did you see Kemisan (a weekly performance in front of F building) on last Thursday, Februari 13th 2014?  If you saw it from the early opening, you must have seen a Readers Theater’s performance presented by some of FLL students. Yup! That was the first trial from one of KBM (Kegiatan Bakat Minat) in our faculty, EDRT (English Department Reader’s Theater). Different from the previous peformances, this time EDRT chose to perform in Kemisan. According to Hannasista ’12 as the chairperson of EDRT, they decided to perform there in order to attract more audiences and introduce this KBM to many people especially students from the other faculties.
Carrying a title “A Beary Unusual Pet” the drama tells about three children who wanted a bear as their pet. At first, their parents were really shocked about that. Then, they had a good trick to make their children change their mind. Finally, the children decided to have a puppy and they called it BEAR. “I think it was a good and entertaining performance because the casts could act well and the story was funny and interesting”, said Ivana ’12 as one of the audiences.
Before the show, the casts did some preparations such as training three times a week. During the training, they improved their vocal, intonation and also expression in order to make the performance better. Brenda ’12 as one of the casts of the Readers Theater’s performance said, “Actually I was really nervous before the performance, but after the performance was end, I feel so relief and quite satisfied with our performance and I think our performance was good.” Not only Brenda who shared her feeling about the performance, Hanna as the chairperson of EDRT also shared her feeling about it. “I feel so relief after watching the performance of the casts, I really appreciate their hard work to prepare the performance during this three weeks, and I also wanna say thank you so much for all crews who have a good cooperation in preparing this first tria of this yearl.”
So, what do you think guys? Do you want to see the other performances from EDRT? Stay up to date for the next trial and hope that it will be much better and more fun!

EDFM New Project: When Love Means Letting Go
Love is something that everybody needs and can’t live without. It always warms heart and often changes someone life. Unfortunately, all forms of differences in this world sometimes make love grows in the conditions that it is not supposed to be in. Loving someone who has a different religion could be one of them. That’s why, sometimes people just have to try to let someone go and learn to move on.
Since love in differences is such an endless discussion which is never flat to be talked about, EDFM (English Department Film Making) chooses it as a big theme for the movies they are making. That big theme then is divided into three small themes which are unrequited love, love in different religion, and incestuous love. Those three small themes will be the basis of their movies plot later on.”We bring the theme about love in differences because it’s universal, easy to make it into movies, and also easy to understand.” said Dara, 2012ers, as a leader of EDFM. She also said that the purpose of making these three movies is to show everyone that EDFM has no less quality than other KBM.
In the movie making process, the members who are consisting of 2012ers and 2013ers work together for almost one full day. They work in such a way for about two weeks. “Tired? Of course”, they said. But actually they feel happy too, because they can be closer to each other and also learn something new. Indeed, the cooperation in making these movies is expected to increase knowledge, especially for 2013ers who will continue EDFM in the following year.
So far, they have been shooting in several regions that have beautiful places such as Kopeng, Bawen, Ambarawa, and Bandungan. They choose those places in order to make every single scene in their movie felt alive with such cool backgrounds.
“The difficulties in making the movie are we can hardly find the talents who are match with the characters.” said Adi, the 2013ers, when PoWers asks about their constraints. But it does not mean that they have already given up.
The movie making will be continued until the end of this month and then they will have a movie premiere in a March. Keep on the spirit, guys! (Sita ‘12/Meytha ’13)
